How SkinPen works
Microneedling creates thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin. Your body reads them as damage and responds the way it responds to any wound, by laying down fresh collagen and elastin. SkinPen Precision is a CE-marked Class IIa medical device and was the first microneedling device to be cleared by the US FDA. That clearance took clinical trials, most microneedling pens on the UK market have never been through anything comparable.
A sterile cartridge, every time
The needle cartridge is single-use and sterile, sealed until it is opened in front of you and disposed of afterwards. A built-in lockout stops a cartridge being reused. It is the part of microneedling people rarely think to ask about, and the part that matters most.

All new clients start with a free consultation. Becci will assess your skin, take a full medical history, and be honest with you about whether SkinPen is the right treatment, and whether one session or a course of three will get you where you want to be.
Skin Prep
A full cleanse, steam, extractions and exfoliation to get the skin ready and open. The cartridge is opened in front of you.
Treatment
Becci works the device systematically across the treatment area, adjusting the needle depth to suit each zone: finer around the eyes and forehead, deeper over scarring. The treatment itself takes around 30 minutes.
Mask, LED & Aftercare
The treatment finishes with a mask and LED light. You will leave with a full written aftercare plan and the products you need for the first few days. Expect redness like mild sunburn for 24–48 hours. Sessions in a course are spaced 4–6 weeks apart so your skin has time to build new collagen between them.

How much does SkinPen microneedling cost?
A single SkinPen Precision session is £180 at The Face Lab until 31 October 2026, after which the price rises to £200. A course of three is £500, which works out at £167 a session and is the better value whichever price is running. Book before 31 October and the launch price is held for your course. Prices are the same at the Lytham St Annes and Leigh studios, and every new client gets a free consultation first. Courses can be spread over monthly payments, subject to status.
Where can I get SkinPen microneedling near me?
The Face Lab has two private studios. The Lytham St Annes studio (FY8 1BQ) is convenient for St Annes, Blackpool, Kirkham, Preston and the wider Fylde Coast. The Leigh studio (WN7 2EH) is convenient for Wigan, Bolton, Warrington and Greater Manchester. Both are treated by Becci personally, and prices are the same at each.
How is this different from your £75 microneedling?
The device, the depth and the protocol. The £75 treatment is a general skin refresher for texture, glow and early fine lines. SkinPen Precision is a regulated medical device, used at greater depth on the clinical protocol the evidence is built on, and it is what Becci reaches for when the goal is established acne scarring, neck lines or a real structural change rather than a freshen-up. She will tell you which one fits your skin at your free consultation.
What exactly is SkinPen Precision cleared for?
The device and its cartridges are CE-marked Class IIa. Its US FDA clearance is specific: for improving the appearance of facial acne scars in adults aged 22 and over across all skin tones, and for improving the appearance of neck wrinkles in Fitzpatrick skin types II to IV. It is widely and safely used for other concerns such as texture, pores and fine lines, but those sit outside the formal clearance and Becci will always be straight with you about what the evidence does and does not cover.
What does the appointment include?
More than the needling itself. Becci runs SkinPen as a full facial: a cleanse, steam, extractions and exfoliation to prep the skin, then the SkinPen treatment, finishing with a mask and LED light. That is why it takes a full hour rather than the half hour the needling alone would need, and it is included in the £180 rather than charged as an add-on.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as a light scratching or vibration rather than pain, and find it more comfortable than they had braced for. Bonier areas like the forehead and jawline are the ones people notice most. If you are worried about it, say so at your consultation and Becci will talk you through exactly what to expect before you commit to anything.
What is the downtime?
Expect redness and a warm, tight feeling much like mild sunburn for 24 to 48 hours, occasionally up to four days. Most people are comfortable going about normal life the next day, and mineral makeup can usually go on after 24 hours. Becci will give you a written aftercare plan including sun protection and what to avoid in the first few days.
How many sessions will I need?
For general skin quality, a single session gives a visible improvement. For acne scarring, neck lines or anything structural, a course of three spaced four to six weeks apart is the protocol the clinical evidence is based on, and it is what Becci will recommend. Collagen keeps building for months after the final session, so the full result is not something you judge on the day.
Is it safe on darker skin?
Yes, this is one of the reasons the device is worth the money. Because microneedling is mechanical rather than heat or light based, it carries a much lower risk of pigmentation problems than lasers do, and the facial acne scarring clearance covers all Fitzpatrick skin types. Becci will still assess your skin individually and discuss any history of pigmentation with you first.
Can I combine it with other treatments?
Yes, with sensible spacing. SkinPen works well alongside anti-wrinkle injections and polynucleotide skin boosters as part of a longer plan, and Becci will sequence them so nothing is working against anything else. Treatments are not performed on the same area on the same day.
